On the morning of November 11, the 2022 World Youth Scientist Summit - International Symposium on Carbon Energy and Wenzhou Academician Forum, organized by Zhejiang Association for Science and Technology (ZAST), Wenzhou Municipal People’s Government, Wenzhou University and Wiley Publishing Group, opened in Wenzhou University.

Wu Chuanyu, member of the Party Leadership Group and Vice Chairman of ZAST, Wang Cailian, Vice Mayor of Wenzhou City, and Zhao Min, President of WZU attended the event. Wang Shun, Vice President, moderated the meeting. Ten fellows, including Dou Shixue, Liu Huakun, Fellows of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering, Cheng Huiming, Han Buxing, Zhang Jin, Ye Zhizhen, Yu Shuhong, Fellows of CAS, Zhang Jiujun, Fellow of Academy of Science of the Royal Society of Canada, Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, Fellow of Engineering Institute of Canada, Sun Xueliang, Fellow of CAE, Fellow of Academy of Science of the Royal Society of Canada, Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, Sun Licheng, Fellow of CAS and Fellow of Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences attended the opening ceremony. Remarks from President Zhao Min

Zhao Min welcomed the guests and pointed out that Wenzhou University actively responded to the national strategy and local industrial development needs by making relentless efforts in the carbon energy research, an interdisciplinary field of new energy and new materials. He introduced the development of Wenzhou University and its achievements in chemistry and materials in recent years. Carbon Energy, jointly founded by Wenzhou University and Wiley Publishing Group, has grown into a highly influential academic flagship journal in the “era of carbon.” It has been included in the action plan of China science and technology journals, and won the first IF of 21.556 by JCR-Clarivate, making outstanding contributions to the carbon energy research. He said that the university would take this summit as an opportunity to further integrate industry, education, research and application, provide a high-quality platform for domestic scientific and technological achievements in the carbon energy to enter the global arena. Zhao Min sincerely invited talents from home and abroad to work with Wenzhou University for common growth.

Remarks from Wang Cailian, Vice Mayor of Wenzhou

Wang Cailian delivered a speech. According to her speech, the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) stressed that we should speed up the green transformation of the development mode and steadily promote carbon peak and carbon neutrality. Zhejiang Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Government attach great importance to this goal. Hence, Wenzhou Municipal Party Committee and the Municipal Government launched a five-year action plan for innovative development of the new energy industry, and implemented five major projects, namely, clean energy doubling, scientific and technological innovation, industrial foundation reconstruction, project investment of 100 billion yuan, and transboundary application. She emphasized that strengthening the high-end, large-scale and clustered development of the new energy industry required core technologies, integration of government, industry, university and research, and contributions from talents at home and abroad. She hoped that the Summit could serve as an opportunity to gather wisdom, resources and talents, and the academicians and experts attending the summit could support Wenzhou by strengthening the research on core technology, improving the industrialization of research results, and building the regional talent center and innovation highland. With the joint efforts, Wenzhou will achieve its strategic goal of carbon peak and carbon neutrality, and embrace a green future.

The establishment of Carbon Energy Young Scientist Award and the appointment of judges

At the opening ceremony, the Carbon Energy and Wiley Publishing Group jointly founded the Carbon Energy Young Scientist Award, and the appointment of judges was held. Zhao Min and Wang Shun, the chief editor of Carbon Energy, issued letters of appointment to representatives of the evaluation committee, including Cheng Huiming, Ye Zhizhen, Sun Licheng, Zhang Jiujun, Sun Xueliang, Dou Shixue and Liu Huakun.

The two-day summit, with the theme of “integrating the power of industry, university and research to enable the carbon neutrality,” brought together well-known experts, scholars and research institutions in relevant fields at home and abroad in Wenzhou to discuss the research hotspots and difficulties in the field of carbon neutrality, aiming to promote interdisciplinary cooperation and innovation, pool scientific and technological forces, and facilitate the carbon neutrality. In recent years, Wenzhou University closely followed the national strategy, optimized the setting of disciplines and specialties, paid much attention to interdisciplinarity, gave full play to the advantages of disciplines and university characteristics to provide strong scientific and technological support and talents for the realization of the goals of the carbon peak and carbon neutrality.
